Ammonite

Ammonites are fossils of once living creatures that lived some 66 to 400 million years ago and disappeared with the extinction of the dinosaurs. Ammonites were closely related to octopuses and squid, except they lived in a shell. Their shells were made of aragonite, a shiny iridescent material, the same material pearls are made of. Fossilized ammonites were formed when the remains of the ammonite were buried by sediment millions of years ago. Over time, the chambers of the buried shell filled with rich mineral deposits, and after being exposed to high temperatures and pressures over millions of years the chemical composition changed and the ammonite became fossilized. Ammonites are the perfect example of geology and gemology coming together, which is why ammonites are one of our favorites. Ammonite is associated with change, resiliency, and overcoming obstacles. The spiral shape represents the journey of life, death, and rebirth.

Ruby

Rubies are the red variety of the mineral corundum. Another popular Corundum is Sapphire. Corundum is the second hardest natural material on Earth, second only to Diamonds. When Rubies are forming they are exposed to extreme heat and pressure. The corundum is composed of densely packed oxygen and aluminum atoms; and if 1% of the aluminum atoms are replaced by chromium atoms then the ruby forms a deep red color. While most gemstones have a specific origin, Rubies are found all over the World. Associated with love and commitment, Ruby is believed to encourage passion and a zest for life. It is said to promote a clear mind and to encourage prosperity and achievement.

Rutilated Quartz

Rutilated Quartz, not to be confused with Tourmalinated Quartz, is a quartz crystal with acicular, or rutile ‘needle-shaped’ crystal inclusions, creating golden streaks within the stone. Oftentimes certain kinds of inclusions in stones can lower the value of a stone, but in this case— Rutilated Quartz is admired for these inclusions. The golden strands of rutile within quartz are said to amplify the stone’s purifying and energizing qualities. Many believe rutilated quartz to increase clairvoyance and intuition, bringing fresh vitality to everyday tasks.

Sapphire

Sapphires, a variety of the mineral corundum (next to Ruby) is formed deep underground and brought to the surface by aluminum rich igneous rocks, or in metamorphosed rocks. Magma cools as it passes through these rocks, crystallization within the rock creating Sapphires. The slower the cooling process, the larger the crystals are. Sapphire can be found in blue, black, green, purple, orange, and yellow or colorless. Blue Sapphires are the most well known and have been associated with royalty for centuries. Traditionally, Sapphire has been known as a symbol of power and strength, but also of kindness and wise judgment. It is thought to bring serenity and to help focus the mind.

Smoky Quartz, a grounding stone, is thought to protect against and help neutralize negative energy. Sunstone

Sunstone is an orange, red, or yellow member of the feldspar family (alongside Labradorite and Moonstone). It gets its color from the presence of copper platelets within the stone which transmit a reddish or pink color. It is often compared to the sun for its miraculous shimmer effect, called aventurescence or the “Schiller” effect. This phenomena allows the stone to appear sparkly and metallic-looking due to reflective inclusions in the form of flat layers within the stone. Sunstone is believed to ward off negativity and to encourage a positive disposition. It is thought to inspire confidence and empowerment, and to promote originality.

Tanzanite is believed to aid in spiritual awareness and psychic insight. It is also thought to relieve stress and depression, as well as enhance composure, poise and harmony.

Tiger's Eye

Tiger’s Eye is a reddish brown, yellow, or blue pseudomorph crystal of quartz; where the quartz has taken over and replaced crocidolite. This formation leaves finely fibrous quartz, creating a chatoyancy effect. Chatoyancy, also called the “Cat’s Eye” phenomena, is when there are parallel rays within a stone that reflect a strip of light on the surface stone. Tiger’s Eye is believed to promote courage, inspire creativity and increase mindfulness. It is said to strengthen confidence in the wearer.

Tourmalinated Quartz is quartz with tourmaline crystals within the stone, creating acicular (needle-like) inclusions. It can come in a variety of colors but is usually a clear crystal with black, green, yellow, or orange inclusions in the form of streaks within it, which give the stone its value. Tourmaline inclusions in Quartz combine the properties of both stones and are thought to deflect negativity. It is believed to harmonize opposing energies and is often used as a good luck charm.

Tourmaline

Tourmaline is its own family and comes in a variety of colors. Tourmaline is hardly ever colorless. Its different colors are due to various minerals being present within the stone— iron creates blue, black, and brown tourmaline, where magnesium creates yellow and brown, and lithium creates virtually any color. Tourmaline can even come in a ‘watermelon’ color, forming a red or pink core surrounded by green caused by a change in the chemistry of a geothermal fluid creating the stone. It is also often found in “bi-colored” or “tri-colored” crystals where more than one color is found in the crystal. Tourmaline is said to foster a connection with the higher self, promoting deeper understanding and encouraging new perspectives. It is thought to inspire self-confidence and balance the mind.

Turquoise is a bluish-green gemstone that can only be found in a few places in the world with dry climates. In these locations, copper rich groundwater combines with aluminum and phosphorus minerals under the earth's crust creating a porous, opaque to semi-translucent stone. Because of its rich coloring, Turquoise has been an extremely popular gemstone for thousands of years. A purification stone, turquoise helps dispel negative energy and protect from outside influences. It is a calming stone that promotes communication, self-realization and creative problem solving.
