Abalone
Abalone shells are from large marine gastropod mollusks. They can range from smaller shells to large shells with an average size of 8 inches. The inner layer of the shell is composed of a material known as nacre, which gives it a shiny and iridescent appearance. The soothing nature of this colorful shell is believed to aid in communication, cooperation, commitment, and insight. Abalone symbolizes perseverance in times of emotional strife.

Agate
Agate is a rock formation composed mostly of quartz and chalcedony amongst other components, creating a rock with colorful layers. They are formed in metamorphic rocks as well as within volcanic rock, sometimes creating beautiful stripes and patterns. Agates come in a variety of colors and can be solid or patterned. Agate is known as a stone of strength, said to enhance intellect and foster creativity. It is believed to bring good luck.

Amazonite
Amazonite is a green mineral in the Microcline Feldspar group and was named after the Amazon region because of its color, even though Amazonite has never been found there. Amazonite stones that are the most saturated with color are found in Russia. For a long time it was a mystery as to how Amazonite got its color and many believed it was from rusted copper compounds within the stone. There have now been numerous studies suggesting that there are other minerals giving it it’s greenish-blueish color. Amazonite is said to be the stone of truth, honor, communication, integrity, hope and trust. It is also believed to enhance creativity and intellect.
Wisdom, Vitality, Healing
Amber
Amber is tree resin that has been fossilized into a honey-yellow colored solid gemstone. Because it is a natural occurrence coming from tree resin, it can occasionally harbor bark from the tree or other things likes leaves within the gemstone, called inclusions. Its name is derived from the Middle French word ambre and the Middle Latin word ambar. A common misconception is that amber is fossilized tree sap, not resin. Trees produce this resin to help heal themselves. An ancient petrified tree resin, Amber’s close connection with nature is thought to promote vitality, health and well-being. It is prized for its energy and healing properties.
CLARITY, BALANCE, INNER HEALING
Amethyst
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz and is one of the world’s most popular gemstones. Funnily enough, this gemstone got its name from Koine Greek word amethystos, which means ‘not intoxicated’ for it’s believed ability to protect its wearer from getting too drunk. It gets its violet color from impurities of iron called irradiation and occasionally from impurities in other transition metals along with the presence of trace elements. Amethyst is thought to be the stone of protection; believed to bring calm, balance, patience and peace to the wearer.
Stability, Energy, Power
Ammonite
Ammonites are fossils of once living creatures that lived some 66 to 400 million years ago and disappeared with the extinction of the dinosaurs. Ammonites were closely related to octopuses and squid, except they lived in a shell. Their shells were made of aragonite, a shiny iridescent material, the same material pearls are made of. Fossilized ammonites were formed when the remains of the ammonite were buried by sediment millions of years ago. Over time, the chambers of the buried shell filled with rich mineral deposits, and after being exposed to high temperatures and pressures over millions of years the chemical composition changed and the ammonite became fossilized. Ammonites are the perfect example of geology and gemology coming together, which is why ammonites are one of our favorites. Ammonite is associated with change, resiliency, and overcoming obstacles. The spiral shape represents the journey of life, death, and rebirth.

Apatite
Apatite is composed of phosphate minerals hydroxyapatite, fluorapatite, and chlorapatite grouped together into the crystal. Because it can occur in various colors and shapes, this stone is often mistaken for other stones. For this reason, its name is derived from apatein, the Greek word meaning ‘to be misleading’. It is found in metamorphic, sedimentary, igneous, and volcanic rocks. Apatite is said to stimulate ideas as well as help to increase intellect, focus and imagination. This stone is thought to help build confidence and aid in communication.

Black Tourmaline
Black Tourmaline is formed in pegmatites which are voids beneath the earth’s surface filled with hot, mineral rich liquid. These pegmatites can be found in granite and coarse rocks layered with different minerals named schist rocks. The tourmaline crystals form when this hot liquid cools and the minerals crystalize. Rough tourmaline is easily identified by its unique crystal habit which is usually a column made up of parallel, elongated crystals. Black Tourmaline is believed to be a purifying stone that deflects and transforms negative energy and thus is very protective. It is also believed to bring emotional stability.

Tourmaline is its own family and comes in a variety of colors. Tourmaline is hardly ever colorless. Its different colors are due to various minerals being present within the stone— iron creates blue, black, and brown tourmaline, where magnesium creates yellow and brown, and lithium creates virtually any color. Tourmaline can even come in a ‘watermelon’ color, forming a red or pink core surrounded by green caused by a change in the chemistry of a geothermal fluid creating the stone. It is also often found in “bi-colored” or “tri-colored” crystals where more than one color is found in the crystal. Tourmaline is said to foster a connection with the higher self, promoting deeper understanding and encouraging new perspectives. It is thought to inspire self-confidence and balance the mind.
