Lapis Lazuli is a blue semi precious stone containing lazurite, pyrite, and calcite. It has been an extremely popular and sought-after gemstone for thousands of years. In Europe during medieval times, Lapis Lazuli was ground into a powder creating a deep blue color pigment called ultramarine. Ultramarine became the most valuable blue color pigment of the time and was often used by the revolutionary painters of the Renaissance and Baroque periods. These artists include da Vinci, Michelangelo, Vermeer, Rembrandt, Botticelli and so many more. Lapis Lazuli is a stone believed to reveal inner truth and encourage self-awareness. It is said to help release anger, allowing one to be more honest and able to speak one’s mind.
