Cowrie Shell

Cowrie is the shell of a group of marine gastropod mollusks, commonly known as sea snails. Its shell has a strong polished shiny top with a solid surface underneath. The top, round side of the shell is called the dorsal face and the bottom, flat side is called the ventral face. In many parts of the world, Cowrie was used as a form of currency. Legend in Africa says that those who love Cowrie are descendants from the spirit of earth and wealth of the ocean. Traditionally, the cowrie shell has been revered worldwide as a spiritual symbol. Cowries have been used for thousands of years for healing, protection and even as currency.
